Joseph Waldmeir (89) died in Dubuque, Iowa, September 12, 2013. He was born December 12, 1923 to Joseph and Helen Waldmeir (later Helen Seurynck) and was raised in Detroit. He served in the Army during WWII (earning five battle stars) and enjoyed a successful career at Michigan State University. Twice the recipient of Fulbright Awards, Joe lectured on American literature nationally and internationally.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Margaret. He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Jerry) Gohr; brother, Peter (Marylyn) Waldmeir; son, John (Mary) and grandchildren, Louis and Helen.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing with the Rev. James Lothamer officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
