Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Darold, and also her parents. She is survived by her son Daniel (Janice) Briggs, her cherished grandchildren Glenn (Nicole), Scott, and Janelle Briggs, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren Bailey and Brody Briggs.
Joyce was a 1951 graduate of Jackson High School. She worked briefly as a bank teller before she began her married life with Darold in 1954. Together they welcomed their son in 1956, while Darold attended CMU. Joyce committed her life to being a very traditional homemaker . She was especially involved in supporting and cheering on her husband, son and grandkids during their many sports endeavors. She was an accomplished seamstress. After Darold's retirement, they spent winters in Las Vegas for 20 years, where she loved to play Bingo. Summers were spent at three different lakes on the west side of Michigan, where she enjoyed potlucks and playing cards with her campground friends. Together the couple enjoyed travel and cruises, often with other couples. For the last 20 years, they returned to Holt to live near family. In later years, family visits, books on tapes and daily phone calls with her lifelong friend, Lori Reynolds became her enjoyment. Along with the support from her family, Joyce was also grateful for the additional support and companionship that Carol McDonell and Jan Parish provided as she aged at home. Joyce spent her 91st birthday, surrounded by her entire family, a memory that will be cherished forever.
Joyce will be dearly missed by her family and those who knew her.
Visitation will take place Friday, November 8, 2024 from 10:00am until 11:30am at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Lansing. A committal service will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
