

Dr. Kisuck Chung, 80, of East Lansing, Michigan, passed away November 16, 2015, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. A long-time government employee dedicated to the field of education, he was a loving and devoted family man who above all prioritized the health and happiness of his family.
Dr. Chung was born August 19, 1935, in Shikoku, Japan. He was the son of Wee-Dae Chung (father) and Sun-Rae Ku (mother). At the age of 10, he moved with his family to South Korea. He attended Seoul National University, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education and won the President’s Prize as the top scholar of his undergraduate class. In 1964, he and his wife came to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to pursue their doctoral studies. After earning his PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Michigan in 1968, Dr. Chung and his wife moved first to Lansing and shortly thereafter to East Lansing where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Dr. Chung spent the entirety of his career as a public servant, working as a Research Consultant for the Department of Education, State of Michigan. For more than 33 years, he helped improve Michigan's education opportunities as an expert on data analysis and evaluation methodologies, and he also represented the State of Michigan on national education committees and initiatives.
Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with his family, reading historical and biographical books, listening to classical music, and visiting art museums.
Dr. Chung is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dr. Haeja Kim Chung; son, Dr. Eugene Chung, his wife, Dr. Sihong Huang, and their daughters, Karina Chung and Stella Chung; son, Eric Chung, his wife, Nancy Zimmermann, and their son, Eliot Chung; and his sister, Bok-Yue Chung.
