Laurel Elizabeth Hanson

Laurel Elizabeth Hanson “Lo-Lo” was born on September 19, 1989, blessed our lives for 25 years and left for heaven on August 9, 2015. Laurel was an enthusiastic student at Heartwood School and looked forward to attending each day. She was a faithful supporter of the MSU women’s basketball team and the Spartan Brass, attending most home games. Laurel always had a smile and hug to share and taught us to enjoy simple pleasures and savor every precious minute. Laurel found joy in the smallest things and especially loved elevators, school bus rides, Sparty, clapping hands with her friends, Barney the Dinosaur, parades and fireworks. She was loved by many and will be missed every day. Cherishing her memory are her parents, Eric and Katie Hanson, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her caregivers.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Laurel’s caregivers for their loving assistance and friendship, and to the many professionals at Sparrow Hospital who served Laurel over the last few months, particularly those in the Sparrow Specialty Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, at University United Methodist Church, 1120 S. Harrison Road in East Lansing. Laurel’s family will receive friends beginning at 1pm at the church. Those wishing to make a gift in memory of Laurel are asked to make a donation to Helping Hands Respite Care, 201 Hillside Court, East Lansing, MI 48823.
