Lawrence Michael Glazer, affectionately known as Larry, passed away peacefully at his home on November 28th, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on August 5, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Stanford and Lois (Orfield) Glazer, Larry was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Raised in Detroit, Larry graduated from Berkeley High School and pursued his passion for history at Wayne State University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He continued his education at the University of Michigan Law School, where he chaired the Law School Students Civil Rights Research Council and won the U of M welterweight boxing championship. It was at the U of M Law Library that he met the love of his life, Patricia Kelly, a professional librarian. They married in June 1970.
After graduating from law school, Larry began his career with Michigan Attorney General Frank Kelley, initially as a speechwriter and later as Assistant Attorney General. During this time, he became good friends with fellow Assistant Attorney General Jim Blanchard, whom he had met during his teen years. Larry left the Attorney General's office after seven years, serving as the director of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on public utilities and later as a private practice attorney.
In 1982, Larry joined the gubernatorial campaign of U.S. Congressman Jim Blanchard and worked in various advisory roles for Governor Blanchard, ultimately serving as the Governor’s legal advisor. He left the Governor's office in 1987 to become a State Circuit Court Judge in Ingham County, a position he held for 15 years through three re-election campaigns until his retirement in 2003.
After retiring, Larry dedicated his time to writing, authoring numerous articles on state politics and a biography of former Michigan Governor and Michigan Supreme Court Justice John Swainson. His book, “Wounded Warrior,” earned the Independent Publisher 2011 Gold Medal for biography. Larry was a firm believer in the power of good government to improve people's lives.
Larry is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Meredith (Steve) Sharp of Okemos, son Ed of Los Angeles, and his beloved grandchildren James and Catherine Sharp. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Katherine. A Celebration of Life will be planned for Spring 2026.
