Loving mother of son Erik Helms, daughter in law Michelle Helms (New Albany, OH) and daughter Christina Helms (E.Lansing, MI ) and adoring grandma to Collin, Cade and Phoebe Helms, she was preceded in death by Dale Helms, her husband and best friend of 33 years, and her parents Paul Steencken and Frances Steencken.
Linda was a graduate of Northville High School and attended Michigan State University where she met Dale, fell in love and then started their journey together first in Quito, Ecuador and then back as a lifelong resident of Michigan.
Linda led a life of curiosity, generosity and wonder. She was a true lifelong student and shared her love of learning. She had numerous exceptional talents which included cooking, sewing, gardening, painting and quilting. She was always outside and loved to be in nature and adored traveling. She was most at home in her magical gardens and the family cottage paradise in the UP. Her homemade cinnamon crescent rolls were famous at holiday dinners so much so that there was a per person limit!
She loved spending time with her family, cooking and hosting big holiday dinners, laughing and spreading her joy.
In her heart she was a teacher. She was a beloved mother, generous friend, loving wife and supportive family matriarch. We will miss her deeply, and always remember the light in her heart and kindness of her soul.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to NPR.org and The Nature Conservancy at preserve.nature.org
A visitation for Linda will be held Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM.
