Marcia Brooke Pederson (nee May), 62, died January 8, 2017, after complications from Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Lansing on June 14, 1954, she was the younger daughter of the late Clyde and Elaine May. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Timothy Pederson of The Villages, FL; her two children, Brooke (Peter) Lund of St Joseph, MI and Brad (Lindsey) Pederson of Chicago, IL; her granddaughter, Ellie Grace Lund, age 5; her sister, Marilyn (Bill) Rye of Haslett, MI; and her faithful rescue dog Maggie.
During her childhood in East Lansing, Marcia loved working on her father's nearby farms -riding horses, harvesting corn by hand, and bonding with the animals. She became an accomplished tennis player and synchronized swimmer and learned to play the accordion.
Marcia earned a B.A. in Architecture in 1976, one of only two women in a class of 100 students, and an M.A., also in Architecture, in 1978, both from the University of Michigan. As an alumna, she served on the Board of Governors for Michigan’s School of Architecture.
Upon graduation, Marcia launched a successful career with Arthur Young & Co in Detroit as a Management Consultant in Energy Management. Her real passion, however, was the non-profit service to which she devoted herself after the birth of her children. During her many years living in the St. Louis area, her work ranged from serving as the PTO president at Chesterfield Elementary School for 3 years to founding Spotlight Productions, a youth theatrical production company.
After Tim retired in 2014, Marcia and Tim spent winters in The Villages, FL and summers in Bear Lake, MI, where their families had both vacationed since their childhoods.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 13th, from 4pm until 8pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, Michigan.
