Margaret June (VanCore) Bourne was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the age of 96. She was born on June 23, 1918 in Alma, MI, the only child of Cora E. (Isham) and Edward J. VanCore. Her parents moved to Lansing when she was three. Margaret graduated from Eastern High School in 1936 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business from Lansing Business College in 1938. She worked for the State Board of Medicine until 1946. In 1942 Margaret married the love of her life, Lt. Col. Robert L. Bourne. They met as 8th graders at Pattengill Junior High School and were happily married for over 50 years until Robert’s death in 1992. Margaret was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for 54 years, and served as an active volunteer well into her eighties. She also volunteered for the Greater Lansing Safety Council and the Sparrow Hospital Gift Shop. She was a member and past-president of the Altrusa Club of Greater Lansing, and belonged to The City Club.
Margaret is survived by her son, Robert E. Bourne of Midland, MI; her daughter, Elizabeth Bourne-Doyle of Southfield, MI; six grandchildren, Marisa Markey (Tony) Mozina of Parma, OH; Paul Bourne of New York City; Mark Bourne of Ann Arbor, MI; Max Bourne of Midland, MI; Shannon and John Doyle of Southfield, MI; and two great-granddaughters. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral will be Friday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 East Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
