Marie C. Harvey, age 92, died January 4, 2015. She was born August 6, 1922 in Lyons, MI to Arnold and Elizabeth (Schmitz) Cook. In 1943 she worked with the MI State Police, Fingerprint Division. Marie was stationed in Washington, DC where she honorably served her country in the US Navy Waves during WWII from 1944-1947 and was in the Reserves until 1959. She was still very active with the American Legion and Waves National, being a Charter Member with Michigan Unit 32. Marie was an active and founding member of St. Thomas Aquinas where she served on the Rosary Altar Society and the Guild. Her church was very important to Marie. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially cruises to Alaska.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, William T. “Bill” Harvey (Oct. 1996); 3 brothers, Julius Cook, Norman Cook and William Cook; 2 sisters, Lorraine Pohl and Revella Lawless.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth (Gary Greenlee) Harvey of Cleveland, OH; 2 sons, A. John (Caroline) Harvey of Long Valley, NJ and David Harvey of Bryon Center; 3 grandchildren, Kristen Harvey, A.J. Harvey and Theresa Harvey; 2 sisters, Wilma (Francis) Trierweiler of Portland and Joan (Carl) Huhn of DeWitt.
The Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, January 8, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing, MI. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00pm at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI and Thursday visitation one hour prior at the church.
Contributions may be made in memory of Marie to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or the American Legion Post 535, 420 West Kilborn St., Lansing, MI 48906.
