

Marjorie R. Hammond Kennedy passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in Lansing, MI, with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter by her side. She was born June 19, 1921 in Cranston, RI, the daughter of Frederick Eugene and Mildred Louise May Cumming Clarke. She lived most of her life in Reading, MA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Charles E. Hammond, and her husband of seven years, Joseph D. Kennedy. She is survived by daughter Carol A. White and her husband, Andy, of New Castle, NH; daughter Barbara H. Borchgrevink and her husband, Carl, of East Lansing, MI; stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Kennedy of Brentwood, NH; and stepson Timothy Kennedy and his wife, Leslie, of Pelham, NH. She is also survived by her twin sister, Louise M. Patriquin of Leeds, MA; four grandchildren, Matthew White and his wife, Elaine, David White and his wife, Julie, Peter Borchgrevink and his wife, Kristen, Laura Borchgrevink and five great grandchildren. Marjorie graduated from Reading Memorial High School in 1939 and the Malden Business School in 1943. She worked at the Reading Cooperative Bank until her children were born and later worked as a teacher’s aide in the Reading Public Schools. She was a member of Old South United Methodist Church in Reading for 61 years. During high school she was a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls in Reading and served as the Worthy Advisor for a term. In her earlier years she was an active member of the Boston YMCA Outing Club and enjoyed many skiing and hiking trips in NH and weeklong stays at Sandy Island on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. During her years with Charlie, the family enjoyed annual two week stays in a log cabin at Willard Brook State Park in Ashby, MA. She enjoyed playing cribbage and canasta her entire life and was an extremely competitive player. Doing jigsaw puzzles and walking outdoors were lifelong activities she enjoyed. Her daughters remember the birthday parties she used to organize for them when they were children with games, prizes, and refreshments. Marjorie’s greatest delight was always her family. A Memorial Service with lunch to follow will take place at 11 a.m. on August 7 at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Rd., Lansing, MI. Burial will take place at the Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading, MA.
