Mary Ann Peterson

She was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in East Lansing. In 1949, when the parish school opened, she was one of the first students to attend. In the winter, she attended St. Thomas by the Sea, Orange Beach, AL.

Mary Ann graduated from Resurrection High School 1961. And received her Associates Degree from Lansing Community College in Business in 1988.

She retired from Prudential Insurance Company in 1995. After retirement, she worked at Brookshire Inn and Golf Club and BestWay Pak-N-Send.

In retirement, Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, golf, reading, playing cards, and wintering in Orange Beach, AL. She was an avid Michigan State fan, bleeding green and white her entire life.

She volunteered at Burcham Hills Retirement Center for 25 years. Her mission was working with catholic patients, helping them attend Mass, and receive the Eucharist. She distributed the Eucharist to catholic patients/residents who were unable to attend Mass. She was an integral part of the weekly communion and rosary service.

Mary Ann was our family historian, publishing a complete genealogy, tracing heritage to Ireland.

She was a member of American Association of Notaries for 13 years.

She is survived by her siblings, Ellen Passage of Haslett, Kevin (Nancy) Peterson of Morrice, and Jane (Ron) Gilbert of Portage; 9 nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James and Paul.

A visitation for Mary will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 7:30 PM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823.
