Born on December 18, 1969, in Port Huron, Michigan, Michelle was the beloved daughter of the late Warren Dale Schattler and Patricia Lee (Bailey) Schattler.
Michelle graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1988 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. She later obtained additional early childhood certifications, cementing her passion for working with children. Michelle worked at People’s Church Preschool for 25 years, where she was a treasured assistant director. During her time there, she became a beloved figure to countless families, children, and colleagues. Her dedication, sense of humor, and caring spirit made a lasting impact, and she was known for her support of both staff and teachers in the close-knit environment she helped foster.
In 1994, Michelle married Wayne Clingenpeel in Port Huron, and together they raised two wonderful sons, Joshua Warren Clingenpeel and Ryan Patrick Clingenpeel. Michelle’s love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
For over 35 years, Michelle called East Lansing her home. In her free time, she found peace walking on the beach, watching sunsets, and exploring the beauty of nature. She was a creative soul and enjoyed music. She loved lighthouses, birds, flowers, and taking beautiful, artistic photographs. She especially loved to support her sons at their sporting events, from preschool soccer to high school tennis and golf.
Michelle is remembered for her radiant smile, generous heart, and infectious sense of humor. Her selflessness and ability to form lasting friendships were cherished by all who knew her. She maintained deep, meaningful friendships from her high school years, and her loving nature touched everyone who came into her life.
