Born on September 25, 1929, in Great Neck, Long Island, New York, to Harold Scudder and Lucy Bell, Nancy’s life was marked by warmth, generosity, and an enduring commitment to those she loved.
Family was the cornerstone of Nancy’s life, bringing her immense joy and purpose. She is survived by Debra and Bill Woodworth of Haslett, Michigan; and cherished grandchildren, Jeff and Kris Woodworth (Trace and Teagan) of East Lansing, Andrea and Scott Garrett (Maya, Macy, and Marly) of Lansing, Stacy and Patrick Regan (Callum and Keenum) of East Lansing, and Jill and Doug Lackie (Grayson) of Haslett. Nancy was also blessed with five additional children and seven more grandchildren through her marriage to Bob, warmly hosting them in Ocean Pines, Maryland, and proudly watching them grow. She is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews, along with her treasured friend of 72 years, Phyllis Haas, of Owosso, Michigan.
Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Daniel, in 1979; her first husband and high school sweetheart, Douglas in 1995; her second husband, Robert in 2017; and her siblings, Harold Scudder of Fairfield, Connecticut, and Shirley Teal of Encinitas, California.
Wherever life took her—be it traveling, moving to a new community, or meeting neighbors over a shared interest—Nancy’s outgoing nature and zest for life shone through. She was an avid reader, enjoyed a good glass of wine, and spent 48 years as a member of the Owosso Country Club and 21 years at the Ocean Pines Country Club. She achieved a Hole-In-One in 1992 and was a two-time “Granny Champion,” driving the ball with the best of them!
Nancy cherished the community of Owosso, Michigan. She was a long-standing member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School, served as Secretary-Treasurer, and led prayer groups. Always eager to give back, Nancy held positions as president and vice-president of the Owosso-Corunna Chamber of Commerce. She also served on the boards of the American Cancer Society and United Way, and made history as the first female member of the Owosso-Corunna Rotary Club, later serving as its president. In her role at Memorial Hospital in Owosso, she directed Community Relations and Volunteer Services. Her outstanding contributions led to numerous honors, including the YWCA “Woman First” Award, the Athena Award in 1994, and recognition as Owosso Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1995.
After marrying Bob McIntyre, Nancy immersed herself in the Ocean Pines, Maryland, community. She dedicated 20 years of service to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Maryland, holding positions on the Auxiliary Board and serving as Vice-President and President. As a member of the Sinepuxent Questers, she focused on historic preservation and was especially proud to help raise funds for the Berlin Germantown Schoolhouse, a project close to her heart.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Independence Village of East Lansing, Divine Life of Haslett, and Care Line Hospice for the wonderful care provided to both Nancy and Bob during their time in Michigan. Nancy would have loved for everyone to celebrate her memory by raising a glass of wine in her honor.
A private memorial service will be held in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Nancy’s name, reflecting her spirit of generosity and love for community. Her adventurous spirit, unwavering dedication to family, and inspiring willingness to serve will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
