

Norma Pauline Donovan, born to Clifford C. and Erma Blakeslee Huyck on July 31, 1928, at the family farm in Carson City, Michigan, peacefully passed away on January 28, 2024, in East Lansing, Michigan, at the age of 95. Norma, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, will be deeply missed by her sister, Daun (Roy) Ketcheson; son, Michael Eric Donovan; granddaughter, Elizabeth; and her great-grandchildren, AJ Alaimo and Jackson Alaimo. Norma was preceded in death by her brother, Noel; husbands, Arlyn D. Donovan and Clyde Chamberlin; son, Christopher Dale; and daughter, Susan Jeanette Martin (Arlyn, Christopher and Susan all died from ALS).
She was the valedictorian of the Carson City High School Class of 1945, showcasing her dedication to education from a young age. Throughout her career, Norma exhibited a strong work ethic and dedication to her various roles. She took original dictation on "A Manual on Industrial Ventilation" and meticulously typed it up for many revisions and subsequent editions, demonstrating her attention to detail and commitment to excellence, and effectively taking it from the typewriter age to the computer age. She has been called the mother of the Manual on Industrial Ventilation by some of the engineers that she worked with on it. Norma also worked as an executive assistant at the Clinical Center, and Student Services in financial aid at MSU for 15 years. She was known for helping many women secure job opportunities, giving them a valuable leg up in their careers.
Aside from her professional accomplishments, Norma had a passion for sewing and was skilled in creating beautiful clothing, including at least five wedding dresses. Her creative talents and generosity touched the lives of many.
Norma Pauline Donovan leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and love. She will be remembered for her unwavering support for others and her dedication to her family. May she rest in peace, knowing she made a positive impact on all who knew her.
On March 23, 2024 at Mayflower Congregational Church there will be a visitation at 1:30 PM, followed by a service at 2:30 PM. There will also be a Celebration of Life at Tony M’s Restaurant and Banquet Center from 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM.
