Phyllis Ann Montague

Phyllis Ann Montague (Olson), age 88, passed away on May 6, 2026. Phyllis was bornin Laurium, Michigan, the first child of Harold and Melvina Olson. As the oldest of eight children, Phyllis learned responsibility very early. She had a strong work ethic and was employed with the State of Michigan, then at Michigan State University until she retired.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. She ventured to Alaska, Hawaii, and Norway. Phyllis valued service and was very active in the Kiwanis Club and the Mason Public Library. She was a long-time parishioner and choir member at St. James Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Erin, Janet, and Karen.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Evan (Jennifer) of Haslett, MI; John (Beverly) of Mattawan, MI; and Lori (Brian) Widener of Richland, MI; her grandchildren, Ean and Grant Montague, Zach (Lainey) and Grace Montague, Jessie (Luke) Kieffer and Allie Widener; her three great grandchildren, Skye, Hendrix and Bernie; her siblings Dave (Mary) Olson, Brian (Cindy) Olson, Jeri (Tom) Melnik, and Kevin (Linda) Olson.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Brookdale Memory Care Facility team for their many years of exceptional care and friendship to Phyllis. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Lansing to honor Phyllis’ life and memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 3pm - 7pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E Grand River Ave. East Lansing, MI 48823.
