Raymond LeRoy Marx

Raymond LeRoy Marx, age 92, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014. He was born in Manchester, MI November 4, 1922 to LeRoy and Emma (Silsby) Marx. At that time, Manchester was a very rural town and Ray grew up loving to hunt, fish and play baseball.

He started college at Michigan State, but his education was interrupted by WWII. He honorably served in the US Army as an officer and spent two years in the European theater. After the war, he returned to MSU where he met his future bride, Jean Jursik. This began their 66 year love affair. They moved to Detroit where he started a truck equipment business with his father-in- law, eventually taking it over and running it for over 30 years.

Along the way, he was president of the National Truck Equipment Association, and also learned to downhill ski with the family.

After he retired, Ray and Jean split their time between their beautiful home on Walloon Lake near Petoskey where they were golfing members of the Bay View Country Club, and their condo in Tucson, where he played more golf and hiked in the nearby mountains. They traveled all over the world including several trips to Europe; a safari in Tanzania; 2 trips through the Panama Canal; and, a trip to Tierra del Fuego at the tip of South America.

Ray is survived by his wife Jean; 3 children and their spouses, Richard and Linda Marx of Troy, Gary and Linda Marx of East Lansing and, Tom and Nancy Giles of East Lansing; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI . Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Manchester, MI.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Monday, November 24, 2014, and Tuesday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
