Ruth Elizabeth Mescher

East Lansing - Ruth Mescher died December 8, 2021 in East Lansing at the age of 97.

She was born on a dairy farm in Eaton Rapids, MI and attended a one room school house before graduating from Eaton Rapids High School in 1941.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Elizabeth Hilliard and three sisters, Ann Fosket, Dorothy Long and Madeline Dickinson as well as her husband, Carl. They were married from 1949 until his death in 2013.

She is survived by two children, Gary (Marlene) Mescher and Susan Wilbanks, grandchildren Joseph Mescher (Casey), Meredith Mescher (Kunal), Amanda Lee (Michael) and four great grandchildren.

Ruth and Carl were active charter members of Edgewood Church in East Lansing and were also long time active members of the Parkwood YMCA Service Club.

Ruth was employed by the state of Michigan in her early years and also worked for Michigan State University in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Ruth traveled throughout her life, starting with an ocean voyage to Ireland in 1947 to visit relatives. Her parents came here from Ireland in the early 1900’s and she was proud of her ancestry. In later years,

Ruth and Carl traveled the world.

The family offers a special thanks to the staff at Burcham Hills Memory Care for their love and care for our mother.

Services will be held at Gorsline-Runciman in East Lansing at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15 with internment to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Okemos. A visitation will take place from 4:30-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14.
