

Sandra "Sandi" Jane Farrell (nee Karalash), 88, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 4, 1937 and was raised there and in neighboring Dearborn, Michigan, graduating from Dearborn High School in 1955.
Sandi is survived by her brother, James Ivan Karalash of Richland, Michigan; her sons, David Robert (Merry) of Traverse City, Michigan, and James Daniel (Kathleen) of Okemos, Michigan; her grandchildren, Derek, Michael, and Sean; great grandchildren, Madison, Layla, Sydney, Michael, Noah, and Elijah; and her nieces and nephews, Alban, Brandt, Daniel, and Esther. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Helen Karalash, and by her son, Michael Joseph Farrell.
A gifted artist and lifelong learner, Sandi lived a rich and beautiful life filled with creativity. She earned her Bachelor's degree in English and her Master of Fine Arts from Michigan State University. She went on to share her passion for the arts and literature as an English and art teacher in the Haslett Public School system, where her warmth and talent left a lasting impact on countless students.
Sandi continued to enrich her community in retirement as a docent at the Wharton Center, a volunteer at the East Lansing Public Library, and an active participant in local bridge and book clubs. She also devoted many years to the Potter's Guild, further nurturing her love of the arts. Throughout her life, she cherished the enduring friendships she formed with her childhood "chums," maintaining bonds that spanned decades.
Sandi's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at StoryPoint Abbot Park for the exceptional care they provided during the past year - particularly Logan, Tammy, Lonyea, Stevi, Victoria, Kristy, and Anju. They also wish to thank Megan, Chelsea, Kelly, Maxine, and Chaplain Grant Fifeld of CorsoCare Hospice for their dedicated support, compassion, and kindness.
The family will have a private service at a later date.
