

Dr. Tapera Albert Chiwocha Sr., born January 1, 1942 in Mazowe, Zimbabwe, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017 in Lansing, Michigan. A favorite professor of many, he taught history at Lansing Community College for over 34 years. Dr. Chiwocha was a voracious reader. His favorite books spanned the gamut of non-fiction: philosophy, religion, politics, history, and biographies. He also enjoyed WINNING tennis matches and chess games. For leisure, he often enjoyed long walks with his wife, Callista.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Callista; his children, Ita Chiwocha, Tsiidzoyedu Chiwocha, Takabvako Chiwocha-Crowell, Farai Chiwocha, and Tapera Chiwocha Jr; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his siblings.
A memorial service will take place at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes at 12:30pm on Monday July 10, 2017. A graveside service will follow shortly thereafter at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Okemos. The family will receive friends on Sunday July 9, 2017 from 4-7pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave. in East Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made in Tapera’s honor to help the family with any unforeseen costs related to funeral proceedings.
