Bill and his wife, Patricia, were born in Canton, Ohio in 1927 and spent most of their lives in East Lansing. After joining the military during WWII, Bill was able to put himself through college, earning multiple degrees including a PhD, all while helping to raise three small children. He became a professor, and his successful career was highlighted by 40-plus years as a Professor of Physiology and Biochemistry at Michigan State University.
Bill was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish since 1960. He made a life of serving others, including taking it upon himself to make weekly visits to the Ingham County Extended Care facility to offer fruit, candy, companionship, and hope to those less fortunate.
Bill was a loving husband and was abundantly proud of his and Patricia’s 67-year marriage. He was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was the center of his life. He was steadfast fan and supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was also an avid MSU Spartan fan, holding season tickets for football, basketball, and hockey for several decades.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and his daughters, Christine Frantz and Sue Calverley. Surviving are his sons, Stephen (Brenda), Mark (Cathleen) and Patrick (Luanne); thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is son-in-law, Steve Calverley.
The Memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in East Lansing on Friday January 10, 2025 at 11:00 am; with the family receiving friends one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
