William (Bill) Allen Romsek, 71, a long-time resident of Haslett, passed away surrounded by his family and dearest friends on Friday, December 12, 2025 after a valiant battle with cancer. He maintained his incredible sense of humor until the very end.
Born in Lansing on January 21, 1954. Bill was the son of William Carl Romsek and Arlene Mina Mae Romsek (Klingbeil). He was a graduate of Lansing Catholic High School where he was known to be an excellent student and an outstanding athlete - competing at the highest levels in both basketball and football. He was named to all-state teams in both sports.
He attended Alma College. His friends thought of him as a genius and when he completed a degree in Mathematics, they felt confirmed in their opinion. He was also a distinguished athlete at Alma, playing basketball for four years.
Bill worked for many years with General Motors/EDS in Lansing, and it was in that work that he met Betty (May) with whom he enjoyed a nearly 40-year marriage. He and Betty had two wonderful children, Anna and Peter. Bill retired early from EDS in 2005 so he could support Betty's career at GM, and dedicated himself to his children and their many interests and activities. As adults, they reflect his love of learning and passion for sports. Peter is a baseball coach for Grand Valley State University and Anna is a teacher in the Lansing School District. His love for Betty and his devotion to his children was known by all who had the opportunity to spend time with Bill.
Bill enjoyed travel and was an avid reader. He enjoyed family trips to Disney and other destinations. In recent years, he and Betty enjoyed trips to Scotland & Ireland, an African Safari, visiting National Parks, time in Alaska, and winter stays in Florida. He read extensively in the classics, science fiction, sports and much more. He applauded anyone who read Raintree County, one of his all-time favorite novels that he returned to multiple times in his life.
Bill is survived by his siblings; Sue (Dave) May of Corpus Christi, TX, Patricia (Kenneth) Knowlton of Grand Ledge, MI, John (Marianne) Romsek of Lake Orion, MI, Amy (Blake) Davis of Dimondale, MI, and Lisa (Ed) Teall of Newburgh, NY; and many (11) nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his niece, Marissa Romsek.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 22, 2025 at St Martha's Catholic Church, 1100 W Grand River Ave, Okemos, MI at 11am. Family will welcome guests for visitation one hour prior to the service at St Martha.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in support of Anna Romsek's classroom to help provide supplies for the students. Donations may be made through AdoptAClassroom.org, a nonprofit organization that allows contributions to be directed to a specific teacher's classroom.
Friends are encouraged to visit the guest book and leave memories of time spent with Bill.
