

He was born March 6, 1921 in McLeansboro, to Thomas and Anna Karcher. He married Irma Schilling Aug. 28, 1946. She passed away Oct. 19, 2011 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include four children: Ken Karcher, Jan Karcher, Anita (Bill) Brown, and Debbie (Dan) Thompson, four grandchildren: Annah and Karsten Brown, Renna (Stephen) Brunton, Hayley Thompson, and one sister, Odelia Karcher.
Jake was a WWII Army Veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for CILCO for 23 years retiring in 1983. Jake was employed as a funeral attendant at Remmert’s since 1996.
He was a member of St. Monica’s and the Knights of Columbus. Jake was a jack of all trades, enjoyed gardening, and loved to make people smile.
Visitation will be Wed. Sep. 23, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. A Funeral Mass will be Thurs. Sep. 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Monica’s Church in East Peoria. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or OSF Hospice.
