She was born on March 22, 1929, in Centralia, Illinois. She married Robert Funkhouser on December 14, 1946, and was the beloved mother of 4 children: Rick (Shirley) Funkhouser of Groveland, Becky (David) Czerkie of East Peoria, Robin (Terry) McClallen of Lincoln, and Patrick (Stephanie) Funkhouser of Sidney. She was a fun grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mom was preceded in death by our father and her 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Mom really loved animals and at various times she had a rooster, a chicken, and a pig in the house, along with many dogs, a few cats, a hamster, and a pet mouse.
But Mom loved people the best and had a special place in her heart for those who were hurting. She always had a hug and a smile when you needed it. She spent much of her time throughout the years volunteering and was particularly passionate about helping people with addiction problems. Other than spending time with her family she was happiest when she was walking dogs at Tazewell Animal Control, doing crafts with residents at Peoria State Hospital, or bringing someone home for a hot meal and an overnight stay. What she modeled to her kids every day was to Love One Another. What a powerful legacy. She will be missed so much by so many.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Family graveside services will be held at a later date. Remmert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
