Nedra J. Mitchell

She was born on March 29, 1930 in DuQuoin, IL, the daughter of Clay and Elizabeth (Kelley) Reid. She

married Russell Gene Mitchell on August 4, 1950 in DuQuoin, IL. He preceded her in death on February

20, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are their three children, Tim Mitchell of East Peoria, Sharon (Rich) Neswold of Geneva, IL; Sue

(Charlie) King of Geneva, IL; and five grandchildren, Laura (Gage) Sears of Moline, IL; Emily Neswold, Alex

King, Ryan King and Lindsay King, all of Geneva, IL.

Once married, Russ and Nedra left southern Illinois for the opportunity to work at Caterpillar in East

Peoria, where they stayed for the majority of their near 70 year marriage. Nedra was skilled at the arts of

knitting and crocheting, and over the years made many beautiful afghans for family and friends’

weddings and babies. Her love of animals prompted the rescue of a feral kitten born in their boat in

Florida. Sheba became a fierce guard kitty for Nedra for more than 13 years. She now lives with one of

Nedra’s daughters. During retirement, Russ and Nedra loved to travel and headed to Florida annually for

the winter months to enjoy fishing and relaxing on Lake Okeechobee.

Private family services will be held, and burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
