

He was born September 28, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri to Howard andHelen Brooksbank. He married Mildred “Millie” Bury in 1992 in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Denny Neul of Louisville, KY, 8 nieces and nephews as well as 5 great nieces and nephews. His brother, Howard Carl preceded him in death.
He graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover Mass., attended Bradley University and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Dick served in the Navy in WWII and took part in the Occupation of Japan. After his service in the war, he returned to Peoria to work in his family's business, World Drug Stores. An accomplished chef andentrepreneur, he entered the restaurant business and opened the Pine Cupboard. He was an avid outdoorsman, artistic, an accomplished photographer, and spent many years participating in national and local politics. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria, and a lifetime member of the East Peoria American Legion Post 983.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday Aug. 16, 2013 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Funeral services will be Saturday Aug. 17, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Peoria. Rev. Kurt Mews will officiate.Military rites will follow the services at the church. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the Church.
Burial will be in Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens, IL.
