Washington – Vernon Bruce Bennett, 68, of Washington, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 9:15 a.m. at UnityPoint Health - Proctor in Peoria. He was born on February 10, 1952 in Peoria, a son of Ralph and Virginia Grace (Hansen) Bennett. He married Rebecca Reed on August 17, 1974 in Peoria, she survives.
Vernon is also survived by his two sons, Derek (Crystal) Bennett and Nick Bennett, both of Washington; two grandchildren, Ian Bruns and Kaylynn Bennett, both of Washington; sister, Cynthia Crowder of Louisville, KY; and brother, William Black of New Windsor, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents; and other brothers and sisters.
Vernon was a painter through Painters and Glaziers Local #157 in Peoria, retiring in 2012. He loved to spend time with his grandkids most of all. Vernon was a drummer, he loved to fish, and enjoyed shooting.
Vernon’s celebration of life gathering will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Goodwill Industries or the Peoria Area Food Bank.
