

Mr. Charles L. Ratterree, age 94, a lifelong resident of College Park, GA passed away under hospice care on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Mr. Ratterree attended College Park and East Point primary schools and graduated from Russell High School. He furthered his education with a BCS degree from GSU and attended Emory University, where he obtained his Doctorate in Law. Mr. Ratterree also served in the U.S. Navy. In 1936 he went on to work for GA Power; retiring in 1983, he served as their Assistant Secretary for 28 years. In addition to his hard work on the job and as a father, Mr. Ratterree was highly involved in his community. He served as President, Chairman and Committee Member to organizations such as the Lions Club, American Red Cross, YMCA, GA Power Division of Junior Achievement, United Way and the South Fulton Hospital Board. Mr. Ratterree also served as a Deacon, Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher for the College Park Baptist Church. His diligence and hard work did not go unnoticed as he was once named in Time magazine as one of Atlanta’s 100 Leaders of the Future; recipient of the GA Power Co’s Good Citizen Award, cited in the 1973 edition of Who’s Who in Georgia and commended by the YMCA in 1999 for his more than four decades of service to the youth and families of SW Atlanta.
Those left to cherish his memory include four sons, Charles L. Ratterree, Robert D. Ratterree, Lewis Ratterree and John Ratterree; daughter, Jane McNair; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Services honoring Mr. Ratterree’s life will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 1 pm in the First Baptist Church of Hapeville with burial following at Greenwood Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends on April 9, 2012 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Flowers are welcomed; however, if desired, contributions can be made to the Southwest Christian Care Hospice in Union City, GA and SW YMCA.
