

Born in Lometa, Texas, May 27, 1922, she was daughter of the late Bonner L. Badger and Maggie Watson Badger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henry (Red) Underwood, her grandson, Jason Lamar Underwood, and by sisters Merle Badger Davis, Wanda Lee Badger Whitley, and La Verne Badger Maxwell.
She is survived by three children, Ronald Lamar Underwood and wife Cathy; Robert Jerry Underwood and wife Nancy; and Charlotte Underwood Nalley and husband Elliot; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews, 26 grand-nieces and nephews, and three sisters, Carolyn Badger Dean, Cora Belle Badger Ferguson and Jean Badger Chapman.
Rene was 1940 class valedictorian of Lometa High School. Following early years of loving and cooperative family life on a Texas ranch, she married and moved to Atlanta, where, during World War II, she was an electrical systems analyst at Bell Bomber in Marietta, Georgia. After war’s end, she devoted her life to her family as loving wife and mother to her three children and all of the kids in the neighborhood.
Raised Church of Christ, life lessons she imparted often accompanied relevant and memorable verses of scripture.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00pm Saturday April 19, 2014 at College Park Cemetery, led by the Rev. Mike Sloan of Old Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Following, please join family at her favorite restaurant, The Barbecue Kitchen.
