

Dorothy "Polly" Ledford Wheeler, 91, of Chattanooga passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011. She was born October 26, 1919 in LaFayette, GA and was a graduate of Central High School's Class of 1937. She was retired from Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company.
She was married to the late John L. Wheeler for 24 years until his passing in 1983. She was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church and was active with their Keenagers Group for several years. One of her personal ministries was to visit many of the Church's homebound members. An outstanding cook, she would give away various treats to her family and friends including her famous biscuits, fried pies, and peanut brittle. She also traveled extensively.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Longgley, and her brother, Arthur S. Ledford. She is survived by her nephew, Michael (Vickie) Ledford of Chattanooga; and her nieces, Marsha (Bob) Rann and Barbara Swanger, both of Chattanooga and Carolyn (Chip) Pearson of Herndon, V A; and her stepsister, Jimmie Willhoit, of Milton, FL.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the wonderful staffs of Hospice of Chattanooga and NHC Healthcare of Chattanooga for the loving care they provided. Also, the family extends a special thanks to Lillie Carter for the sweet, loving care she provided.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3rd, at 1:30 PM at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Winford Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 -7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2nd, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or the Lottie Moon Offering c/o Brainerd Baptist Church.
