Gaylord David Drinkard was born September 26, 1944, on a small farm in Decatur, Alabama, the son of David S. and Marguerite Suite Drinkard. He attended San Pasqual High School in Winter Haven, California. He joined the United States Naval Forces and served in the “Vietnam War." He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority as a Boilermaker and CWI Inspector until the day he retired.
He was married to the love of his life, Polly Logan, 31 years ago; it was this union that brought life and love back into the lives of Polly and her two children, Janice Kay and Joy Lynn. David and Polly relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1987. David always said, “What’s the use of living if you can’t be happy,” and he spent his life making others happy.
He was a wonderful husband and soulmate to Polly and a best friend and father to many until his passing on Thursday, May 14, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Surviving are his wife, Polly; his children Joy, Janice and son-in-law, Tommy; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. David leaves a sister Phyllis (Thaddis); brother Richard (Cinda) and best friends Mary Queen and Paul Fitzsimmons. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Marguerite Drinkard. He will always be remembered for his kind smile and sweet personality; he was truly a beautiful person who lived to love and please his family.
Funeral services will be held2:00 pm Monday, May 18, 2015 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Brother James Julian and Pastor Steve Ball officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-6 Sunday and from 12-2 Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Polly Drinkard or mailed to P.O. Box 91104 Chattanooga, TN, 37412. The family of Gaylord David Drinkard wishes to thank Hearth Hospice and everyone for your prayers and support.
