

Gary, born August 23, 1950, was a lifelong Lookout Valley resident, a graduate of Central High School, and a proud United States Army veteran who served from 1969 – 1973 during the Vietnam War.
Gary retired Detective Sergeant after 32 years of dedicated service with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, where he built a career marked by professionalism, integrity, and deep respect for the community he served. His commitment to public service and to his fellow officers was unwavering, and his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched throughout his career.
He is survived by his son, Gary Alan Farmer, Jr.; his nieces and nephews, Cathy (Jerry) Davis, Tommy (Jill) Farmer, Marty Farmer, Matt (Amy) Farmer, and Ginger Farmer; great-nieces and nephews; along with many loving cousins and cherished friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Farmer; his mother, Ruby K. Farmer; and his brothers, Tommy Farmer and Terry Farmer.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM Monday December 29. 2025 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 10 AM - 12:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. Services will be officiated by the Honorable Sheriff Jim Hammond (Retired). Gary will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memory Gardens, West with full military honors.
The family extends special thanks to Sheriff Austin Garrett and the many dedicated men and women of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for their support, service, and compassion.
Gary will be remembered for his service, loyalty, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Forgotten Child’s Fund.
