Mrs. Matthews was born and raised in Robertson County, Tennessee to James Cornelius Adams, Sr. and Bessie Lee Fyke Adams. She was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Fellowship Class, the 55 Alive group and was a church office volunteer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Wade Matthews; sisters, Alice Murphy, Myrtle Freeman and Eva Murphy; and brothers, J. C. Adams, Jr. and George Fyke Adams.
Surviving are her son, Gerald (Royce) Matthews of Rock Spring, GA; daughter, Diane (Parks) Dobbs; granddaughters, Melanie Dobbs Gibbs, Dauna Dobbs Clinton, and Moira Dobbs (Will) Smith; great-grandchildren, Daniel (Diane) Dobbs, Evan Wade Clinton, Emma Kaitlee Clinton, Robert Hayden Smith and Kate Elisabeth Smith.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Dial and Rev. Curt McKee officiating and additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
