Harold Leonard "Spike" Carscaddon, Jr., found his peace on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. A man fiercely dedicated to those who he considered friends and family, Spike was born in Chattanooga, graduating from Tyner High School and the University of Chattanooga. He served in the US Air Force in France, then left to join the Volunteer State Life Insurance Company where, despite many reorganizations and changes of ownership, he forged a bond amongst those with whom he worked, one he maintained for his entire career within the industry.
Spike was a founding coach of the Greater Brainerd Soccer Association, later renamed the Redoubt Soccer Association, which promoted soccer among youth in the Brainerd area where he lived. Spike was also an avid sailor, a longtime member of the Privateer Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore, presiding over numerous regattas within the Chattanooga area. When not presiding over races as an official, Spike was on a sailboat with his sons, teaching them to harness the wind and make it their own. Later in life, Spike became Adjutant of the American Legion Post 95, in which he took pride in becoming a member of the Forty and Eight.
Spike was preceded in death by his father, Harold L. Carscaddon Sr., his mother Mary Tuckman, and his stepfather, Arthur J. Tuckman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Carscaddon; sister, Joy Campbell and her husband Larry; son Allan Carscaddon, his wife Eleanor, and granddaughters Lydia and Hadley; son Bruce Carscaddon, his wife Shawna Henley and her children Grace, Jacob, Logan and Jillian; his daughter Laura Carscaddon, and son Wesley Carscaddon.
Visitation for Spike will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel from 3-7 PM, Friday, October 10, 2014 with a 7 PM Celebration of Life service in the parlor.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Legion Post 95, P.O. Box 9093, East Ridge, TN 37412 or to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, P.O. Box 11203, Chattanooga, TN 37401.
