Mrs. Smith was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Erne and Grace Murbach. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama. She was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church where she belonged to the Bethany Sunday School Class. Janie retired from Parkridge Hospital as an Operating Room Technician and later volunteered at the hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Karen Smith Ehrenfeld, and husband Joe F. Smith.
Surviving are her children: Wayne (Kelly) Smith, Brian Smith, Jason (Gina) Smith and Russ (Laurie) Ehrenfeld; 11 Grandchildren; 3 Great-Grandchildren; and sister, Mary Middleton of Ormond Beach, Florida.
Visitation will be from 10 to 12:30 PM on Thursday at the funeral home followed by a
Funeral Service at 12:30 PM with Rev. Dr. Steve Rowland officiating.
Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Brainerd Baptist Church Beyond Measure Fund or the East Ridge Public Library.
