

He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 20 in 1951. Jimmy was stationed in Korea where his main duty was driving a truck hauling equipment and men. He received the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Camp Star. Jimmy also received a United Nations Service Medal. He was honorable discharged in January of 1953. In November of 1953 he was married and began to start his own family. Jimmy became the father of two sons, Jimmy George Hickman, Jr. and Michael Gene Hickman. In 1971, Jimmy began his career with the United Parcel Service (UPS) as a truck driver. In 1978, he married Joyce. Jimmy retired from UPS in 1992 and since he and his wife, Joyce have enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, attending UT Vols and Atlanta Braves games both of which he was a huge fan of. He and Joyce attended God’s Family Fellowship in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James Cleatis Hickman and Juanita Estelle Hickman, son, Jimmy Hickman, Jr., his former wife, Javota Hickman, brothers, Willard and Otis Hickman, sister, Joyce Thornhill, step-sons, Gary Wayne and Michael Eugene Pugh, and brother-in-law, Dub Daughtery
Left behind to cherish Jimmy’s memory are his loving wife, Joyce Dean Hickman, son, Michael Gene Hickman, daughter in law, Laura Hickman, step-daughters, Melody Pendergrass, Deborah Willis and Sharlene Choate, brother, Steve (Pat) Hickman, sisters, Betty Daughtery and Stella (Curtis) Fairbanks, step-grandchildren, Wendy (Randy) Scott, Misty Pendergrass, Chris Glenn Pugh, Jennifer McDade, Jonathan Elliot, Heather (Clay) Baker, Dwayne Vincent, Diane Hengal, Rick Gonzales, Gary (Carrie) Pugh, Melissa Pugh, great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held graveside in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday June 4, 2021 at 12:30 pm with Pastor Doug Bell officiating. The United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 95 will render honors.
A special Thank You to the healthcare workers and staff of Signature Nursing Home in Cleveland for the love and care that you all have given Jim and to all of his UPS friends who have continued to visit Jim and be a part of Jim’s life.
