Kenneth Leroy Lewis, age 77, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, formerly of Terra Alta and Sardis, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026. He was born July 16, 1948, in Terra Alta, the son of Evelyn Louise Beatty Lewis Tasker and Clarence Leslie Lewis.
A man who never shied away from a day’s work, Kenneth carried himself with steady devotion—to his family, to his faith, and to the people around him. His kindness was the sort you could feel in ordinary moments, offered quietly and without fanfare, and his faithful heart showed in the way he kept showing up, again and again, for those who needed him.
He retired from Tomaro’s Bakery of Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was a member of The Oakland Church of God of Prophecy and was a former member of the Full Gospel Worship Center. He also served with the Sardis Community Council as a trustee of the Sardis Community Buildings, volunteered with the Sardis Food Bank, and helped with community activities—because for Kenneth, being part of a community wasn’t something you talked about; it was something you did.
He was known by several nicknames; by friends and family he was known as Bud or Buck. The grandchildren known him as Pappaw. The great grandchildren known him as Pappy. Fellow church members knew him as “Candyman”—a name that fit not only for the sweetness it suggests, but for the warm, good-natured way he could brighten a room and leave people smiling.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah Virginia Snell Lewis, whom he married on February 28, 1970; his daughters, Ruth Carpenter (David) and Elizabeth Keener {Edward). He has eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his siblings: Joan Jackson (Wilsondale W.V.), Joyce Shaffer (Royce City, TX.), Rebecca Tasker (Bruceton Mills W.V.), Gary Curtis Lewis (Terra Alta, W.V.), William Vernon Lewis (Terra Alta, W.V), Willard Tasker (Kingwood, W.V.), Jerry Allen Tasker (Terra Alta, W.V) and Thomas Paul Tasker (Terra Alta, W.V.).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Willard Tasker Sr.; his brother, David Jeffrey Lewis; and two grandchildren, Ronnie and Donnie Jenkins of Parkersburg, W.V.
