Lois Delane Hobbs Gault of Chattanooga passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the age of 94. She was born in Eastland, Tennessee on August 27, 1921. She grew up in Wayland, a small coal mining town in the hills of eastern Kentucky. She was the twelfth and last surviving child of Elmira and Gilbert Hobbs.
At Wayland High School, she played point guard for the basketball team and sang in the Glee Club. She also competed in area-wide singing contests and won many first place prizes.
She married George Tabor Gault in 1943 after a war time courtship of three days! They were married for 40 years until Tabor died in 1982.
After moving to Chattanooga in 1948, she worked at Dun and Bradstreet and then at Provident Life Insurance until her retirement. She was on the bowling team and sang in the chorus. She enjoyed working at Provident and made many lifetime friends there.
Having lived in different parts of Chattanooga for 70 years, she has been a part of three wonderful churches: Tiftonia Church of Christ, Brainerd Church of Christ and Red Bank Church of Christ and was a tireless worker in all of them. The family wishes to thank the fine people of these churches for their love and care for her during her years here on earth. We also thank the caretakers at Martin Boyd Christian Home and NHC Chattanooga for their loving attention during her last years.
Her lifelong loves were her God, her family and her church. Her husband, Tabor and her 11 brothers and sisters have gone before her as well as her much loved niece, Nola Hobbs.
She is survived by her daughter, Fran Roland (Paul); son, David Gault (Jackie); six “perfect” grandchildren and their equally “perfect” mates, Todd Roland (Laura Lynn), Beth Stokes (Kevin) Andrew Gault (Ana), Sarah Williamson (Ryan), John Tabor Roland (Vicki) and Jill Young (Paul); 19 beautiful great-grandchildren, Alex, Avery, Roland, Hannah, Jenny, Cara, Matthew, Joshua, Michael, Sydney, Jack, Evy, Mack, Champ, James, Delaney, Frances, Elizabeth and Annabelle and several nieces, nephews and cousins – all of whom were the joy of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, West. The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 PM Friday at the funeral home.
If you wish to make donations instead of flowers, the three churches already mentioned above, Martin Boyd Christian Home, NHC of Chattanooga and Boyd Buchanan School are suggested.
