

She graduated from City High in 1935 and the University of Chattanooga in 1939. She was president of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, a member of Mortar Board and Alpha Society, and was honored as Miss University of Chattanooga.
She married Marschal D. Rothe from Chattanooga, and lived in Miami, Florida, New London, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C.
Upon her return to Chattanooga, she taught at Hemlock Elementary School, Howard Elementary, and Elbert Long School, and was honored many times for her teaching gifts. After her retirement, she taught in the G.E.D. Program at Northside Neighborhood House.
A constant in her life was First-Centenary United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher for the Women's Friendship Class for over 20 years. She loved to read and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Book Club. She was very helpful in getting Ferger Place, the first planned community in Chattanooga, placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include daughters Janice Robbins and her husband Buckley, and Carol Schenkel and her husband Bill; grand-daughters Mary Schenkel, Hannah Logan, Mandy Bohner and her husband Alex; great-granddaughters Louisa and Frances Bohner, and Madeline Logan.
The family wishes to thank all care-givers for their loving attention.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 29, from 1pm to 3pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home East. A memorial service will follow at 3pm with Dr. David Harr officiating. A family burial service will be at the Coulter Cemetery, Kensington, GA following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First-Centenary United Methodist Church, St. Nicholas School, or a charity of your choosing.
