

Mable Claire Brown Tallon, 93, known as “Teetie” to friends, died on April 20, 2015 in Chattanooga after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the oldest daughter of May Belle Newman and Wesley Abbott Brown.
A native of Columbia, South Carolina, she was a graduate of Columbia High School and post-secondary secretarial school. During World War II, she was a stenographer working for the United States Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
After her marriage, she lived in Birmingham, Atlanta and Chattanooga. Beginning in 1961, she worked as a secretary for Hensley-Schmidt Engineering until her retirement in 1982. She and her husband formed Automatic Ice Company in 1972, which they ran for 30 years. She was a wonderful loving and caring wife, mother and “granny” and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Tallon joined South Seminole Baptist Church in 1956, and she remained a member until her passing. She taught the Joy Class and the Special Friends Sunday School Class for many years. She was active in WMU and the church choir.
After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Tallon enjoyed traveling throughout the U. S. and Canada in their Airstream RV, and spending time at the Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground in Crossville and at Traveler's Rest in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Rufus Carlisle Tallon, and an infant son, Rufus Carlisle Tallon III. She is survived by daughters Pat Brinsfield (John) of Ringgold, GA, and Pam Rule (Tom) of Macon, GA; and sons Wes Tallon of Douglasville, GA, and Webb (Karen) Tallon of Chattanooga. She has three grandsons: Ben Johnson (Ashley) of Chattanooga; Caleb Rule (Chelsea) of Augusta, GA; and Patrick Rule of Macon, GA. She is also survived by a sister, Bettye Thompson of Pueblo, CO, and a sister-in-law, June Tallon of Shelby, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 12:30 pm in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, Chattanooga, TN with Rev. Dr. John W. Brinsfield, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home two hour priors to the funeral service, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Her family wishes to thank the members of South Seminole Baptist Church, Hospice of Chattanooga, and special caregivers Peggy Fowler and Mildred Brooks for their faithful attention and care during her later years.
