Margaret Shannon Alexander, 65, of Chattanooga, was called home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2020. Shannon died surrounded by family in her home. Shannon was a long-time member of South Seminole Baptist Church and faithfully taught children in Sunday School for many years . Shannon graduated from Brainerd High School in 1972 and attended Chattanooga State Community College. For thirty-one years, Shannon worked in Accounts Payable at the Hamilton County Board of Education. Shannon married the love of her life, Tim Alexander, in 1975. Their marriage was a testimony of joy and grace to all who knew them. For the forty-four years of their marriage, Shannon affectionately called Tim “Buddy” and he was her best friend. They were frequently seen tenderly holding hands and laughing together.
While Shannon spent most of her life in service to others, Shannon enjoyed reading, spending time with her beloved Boxer, Molly and was known as an excellent cook. In addition to these hobbies, Shannon enthusiastically traveled the country watching her girls compete in softball, volleyball and basketball games. Shannon was a passionate fastpitch softball fan and loved cheering on her daughter when she played for the Chattanooga Lady Mocs. Shannon selflessly devoted herself to her family and everyone knew that one of Shannon’s greatest joys was her grandchildren. Shannon had a unique gift for making each child feel loved and special despite her physical limitations. Although, for many years Shannon fought a failing body, her positive and infectious attitude never faltered. Shannon loved the Lord, and from the overflow of her heart, she spoke life into all who knew her until her last breath on this earth.
Shannon is preceded in death by her parents, Jeannine McClure Sansing and Jimmy Earl Sansing (stepfather) of Chattanooga, TN and Bobby Lee Coker of Chattanooga, TN; and sister, Jeannine “Kit” Massey.
