

Born on August 19, 1933, in Fairmont, North Carolina, Myrtle attended Chattanooga State. She dedicated her life to being a homemaker, raising five children with love and care. Her love for music and the piano was carried on by her children and grandchildren who continue to play various instruments and sing.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Ervin Clifton Turnmire on September 30, 1950, and they shared 62 wonderful years together. She is survived by her children, Michael (Ann) Turnmire, Dana (Kandy) Turnmire, Kim (Cheri) Turnmire, Brent (Terri) Turnmire, and Marsha (Neal) Meers. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Tara, Brian, Scott, Elizabeth, Daniel, Hannah, Adam, Aaron, Jonathan, Tyler, Kalyn, Brittany, Bethany, Ethan, Evan, Christopher, Steven, Brittany, and Brenden, as well as many great-grandchildren. Myrtle is also survived by her sister, Margaret (Art) Horne.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ervin Clifton Turnmire, grandchildren, Sara and Jason, and siblings, John, Hattie, Mildred, and Ed and her parents, Kemp and Caroline Floyd.
A faithful Christian, Myrtle loved the Lord and was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church for over 50 years, and more recently, Silverdale Baptist Church. Her life was marked by a deep love for reading, especially her Bible, and cooking for her family. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and Backgammon, recently triumphing over her children, Kim and Marsha, in a game of Backgammon. Myrtle also liked playing Rook and Progressive Rummy.
A Celebration of Myrtle’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday February 26, 2026, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening February 25, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Ervin, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery following the service.
Myrtle's life was guided by integrity, with no gray areas, only right or wrong. Her unwavering faith and dedication to her family and community leave a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
