

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leumos and Ethel Harris Stancil; brothers, James Stancil and Harold Stancil; two sisters, Maxine Wood and Billie Jean Rowles.
Paul was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Merchant Marines. When he returned home, he worked for many years both in Chattanooga and in Mobile, AL in the trucking industry. He was married for 58 years to his wife, Winifred who passed away in 2005.
Paul was an avid golfer and had many golfing buddies both here in Chattanooga and in Mobile. He loved watching Major League Baseball games, particularly the Cubs and the Yankees. He was also a New Orleans Saints fan and he taught the boy’s Sunday School class at East Ridge Baptist Church for several years.
He is survived by his son, Paul Stancil, II and his daughter, Debra S. (Allen M.) Brooks. Family life was very sacred to Paul and Winifred. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Dawn Bailey, Christy Smith, Tiffany Goldsmith, Julie Campbell and Paul Stancil, III; eight great-grandchildren and, yes, five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many precious nieces and nephews. There is also a special place in his heart for the love of his best buddy and grandson-in-law, John W. Smith.
A public visitation will be held from 12 – 2 PM Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road followed by a service at 2 PM at the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Stancil officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
