He was born in Chattanooga on August 8, 1930 to John W. Allen and Amye Iona Smith Allen. He graduated from Central High School, Class of 1948 and was a longtime employee of the Chattanooga Times Free Press. He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and recently Grace Bible Church in Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Eloise Crytz Allen, his parents, John W. Allen and Amye Iona Smith Allen, and by two brothers, Charlie Allen and David Allen.
Survivors are three brothers, John Allen of Chickamauga, GA; Richard Allen of Stockton, CA; and Jeff Allen of Cleveland, TN; four children, Robert L. Allen, Jr. of East Ridge; William Kyle Allen, East Ridge; Katy Howard, Tampa, FL.; Paul Crytz Allen, Ringgold; as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4–8 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, at the funeral home.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Monday, January 30, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Steve Atwood officiating.
