

He was survived by his wife of 42 years, Terri Jeter-McAvoy, and his children, Karen E. McAvoy, Allison P. McAvoy (Scarlett Farr), Roger L. McAvoy, Jr (Kay). Roger also was survived by grandchildren: Paul Wilkinson (Devon), Alan Wilkinson (Alexa), Roger McAvoy, III, Robert McAvoy (Isabella), Jessica Cruz and Octavio Cruz and great grandchildren: Sophie McAvoy, Mason Cruz and Adaline McAvoy.
Roger graduated in 1953 from Reynolds High School in Winston Salem, NC. After high school he joined the Army and served in Germany. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1963 and began his career as an accountant. Roger was known for his patience, kindness, and cooking skills.
Graveside services will be at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Diabetes Association (diabetes.org), Kindred Hospice Foundation (donatekindredhospice.com.) or your favorite charity.
