Selma P. Harkleroad, 89, of Ellijay, GA passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 in a local hospital. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Americus, GA and Simpson United Methodist Church in Rossville, GA. She taught Sunday School for years at Simpson United Methodist and was past president of the Golden Agers. She had worked for State Farm Insurance. Mrs. Harkleroad was a graduate of Americus (GA) High School and attended Georgia Southwestern College.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gabriel M. Pityer and her second husband, Bert Harkleroad.
Survivors include three sons, Richard M. Pityer, Michael H. Pityer and Robert J. Pityer; one step-son, Derryl Harkleroad; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Cox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Simpson United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, GA at 1 PM on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Simpson United Methodist Church.
