Terrie JoAnne Edwards Frederick

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Glen Frederick; two infant sons, Terry Edwards Frederick and Steven Buffington Frederick; and parents, Terry and Florence (Buffington) Edwards. She leaves a daughter, Pam Frederick Henry (Sam); grandson, Brent Henry (Candice); great-grandchildren, Blake Norton and Eliza Henry; and a dear cousin, Evelyn Gabor, the closest to a sister that she could ever have.

She worked most of her life in newspaper and radio, beginning in high school with a weekly column in the Mansfield News Journal (Ohio). Following her family’s move to Owosso, Michigan, as a senior in high school she again wrote a weekly column for the Owosso Daily Argus Press. She followed up as a co-op student at Michigan State while working for the Argus Press Society Section. After marrying and moving to what would become her beloved Chattanooga, she served as Staff Editor for Southern Newspaper Publishers Association and as Continuity Director for WDEF and WDOD radio stations. She also loved working for the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau, but her favorite “job” and labor of love was her weekly radio show, “Scenic Center Safari” which she hosted following the retirement of her friend, Bob Elmore. Having never met a stranger, Terrie ended her working career in the Family Assistance department of Chattanooga Funeral Homes where she always felt that she received such a blessing from the families she served.

As a girl, Terrie attended the premier of “Gone with the Wind” in Atlanta; she was often requested to speak at GWTW conferences and special events. She was instrumental in bringing such an event to Chattanooga along with visitors from all over the country. She also worked tirelessly during the start-up of the Medal of Honor Museum. She served for years as a member of the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council and was a long-time member of Hamilton County Democratic Women.

Over the years, Terrie and Glen enjoyed activities like bowling, square dancing, and serving as sponsors for Vietnamese refugees. She loved photography and placed several of her collections in local businesses, but her family and friends were her greatest pleasure. She was never without a purse full of pictures and stories to tell about them. Terrie was a member of the Joy Class of Ridgedale Baptist Church and was an Eastern Star. She will have many stars in her crown for small and large kindnesses extended not to just friends but to people whom she barely knew.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 22, at the East Chapel from 2:00 to 5:00.

The funeral will be held at the East Chapel on Tuesday, June 24, at 11:30 with Dr. William Owens and Rev. Bill McGinnis officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery.
