

She was a graduate of Red Bank High School in 1948, and a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. She was a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church and later, a member of Brainerd United Methodist Church; a member and past president of the Valamont Women’s Club, and Orange Grove Parents Association.
Virginia enjoyed golf, playing bridge, gardening, and traveling at home and abroad. She became an avid genealogist. It gave her great joy to research family history and connect distant family members to each other. She worked for Provident Life Insurance for a brief period before starting a family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert Guth and Evelyn McDonald Guth, and her husband of 54 years, Walter A. Lerch, Jr.
Left behind to cherish Virginia’s memory are her daughter Jane Ann (Robert) Laub, Nashville TN; sons Walter Richard Lerch, Chattanooga; and Robert Reid Lerch, Breckenridge CO; grandsons Joseph (Rachel) Laub, Brookline MA; and Michael Laub, Chattanooga; sister Shirley Guth Evans, Hixson TN; and nieces Dee (Greg) Menefee, Lexington KY; and Christine (Chris) Gardner, Southern Shores NC.
A Celebration of Virginia’s Life will be held graveside in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Friday April 8, 2022 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Friday prior to the committal from 9:00 – 10:00 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to Orange Grove Center or to Brainerd United Methodist Church.
