William “Bill” H. Brown Jr. passed away on February 25, 2026, at the age of 84. Born September 18, 1941, Bill was humorous, LOVED LIFE, kindhearted, and quick-witted—someone who could turn an ordinary moment into a story worth repeating, usually with a grin and a punchline delivered at just the right time.
Bill’s early years were marked by spirit and adventure. He was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1960 and a cheerleader and later when onto cheer at MTSU, and he was an Eagle Scout. He also married his junior high sweetheart, beginning a love story that would span a lifetime and then some.
Bill owned Curry Contracting, and what he enjoyed most wasn’t just the work—it was the people. He loved interacting with clients because, simply put, he loved people. If you met Bill once, you didn’t stay a stranger for long.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Linda J Brown; three sons: Dr James W “Buster” Brown MD (Kathy), Mr. Micheal H Brown (Lynn), and Mr. Matthew W Brown (Melissa); four grandsons, Grant, Ethan, Dylan and Gavin; two granddaughters, Brittany and Skylar; and two great granddaughters, Layla and Lucy. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Helen Davis and Bonnie Sue Gilreath, stepsister Trudy Griffith and stepbrother Johnny Brown.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, W Howard Brown Sr and stepmom Lela P Brown, mom Luverne C Moore and stepdad Frances Moore.
Bill loved golf and was a member of Council Fire. He played in the Kessel Ball group and took many golf trips with friends—especially with (the Fearless 4) and the Pitman Group—and attended the Masters many times. He also participated in tennis leagues, and he loved beach trips with his family, taking many trips to Hilton Head. Bill was a great dancer, especially shagging with Linda, and he could often be seen jogging the streets of East Ridge, having run many marathons. He loved his dogs and had too many to count over the years. He also loved coaching his sons in youth league baseball, bringing plenty of encouragement, and likely a few jokes, to the dugout.
Bill was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Chattanooga Claims Association.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his quick wit, his smile, and the way he made “Pop Pop” synonymous with fun. Bill loved a good joke and loved telling jokes, but what he loved most was his family.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to The Lantern at Morning Point for their loving care.
A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Monday March 2, 2026, at 6pm with Rev. Don Coulter officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 4pm. He will be laid to rest privately in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
