Bernice Virginia Whidbee James

Born on May 27, 1944 in Hertford, NC, she was a daughter to the late Frank and Bettie (Dillard) Whidbee and attended the Hertford, NC school system. In her twenty’s she relocated to New York City, NY where she became a wife and mother and raised her three loving children.

Bernice retired and moved to Pennsylvania, settling in East Stroudsburg. She loved and adored her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was near and dear to a host of family and friends. Bernice took great joy in cooking, traveling, music, playing the Wii but most of all playing the instant tickets of the Pennsylvania Lottery. She took the test for her Pennsylvania driver’s license at 63 and passed.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were twin brothers, Al Wesley and Al Winston Whidbee; brother, Lucious (Mac) Whidbee; grandsons, Eddie James and Christopher Elliott.

Surviving are daughters, Hanette James of Bronx, NY; Linda James and her significant other Warren Richardson, of Mt. Bethel; son, Albert James and his wife Susan of Dickson, IL; sisters: Louise Skinner and Bettie Dance of Elizabeth City, NC; brothers, Frank Jr., Charles, Andrew, and Eugene Whidbee all of Elizabeth City, NC; Edward Whidbee of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Infinite and Justin, Charles, George, Tabitha, and Jessica James, Christina Havenwaller, Bernadette Williams and Bryan Richardson; great-grandchildren, Allan and Jameill Havenwaller, and Nevaeha Williams; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. John Harding pastor of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Craigs Meadow Road East Stroudsburg, officiating.

Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. till the time of service.
