
Born on October 19, 1926 in East Stroudsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary Oakes Kunkle.
J. Russell Kunkle Sr. was a graduate of East Stroudsburg high School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and was honorable discharged in 1946 as a Seaman First Class. After returning home from serving our country J. Russell earned an Associate’s degree in production control from Penn State Allentown Campus. He was employed by Ronson Corp formally of Del Water Gap, also for a short time as a Insurance Salesmen and retired from Penn Fuel of Stroudsburg as a salesmen
Mr. Kunkel was a member of the First Presbyterian church of the Mountain in the Delaware Water Gap. He was a member of the East Stroudsburg Fire Company over 50 years. He enjoyed spanning time at the Pocono Singles club, fishing and golfing.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his wife of 39 years the former Edith A Emmans who passed away on September 28, 1986 a son J. Russell Kunkle Jr., two brothers: Alton Kunkle, and Clinton Miller; four sisters: Velma Johnson, Flossie Case, Margarite Cliffton and Marion Hostetter.
Surviving is a daughter: Mary Darlene and her husband John Dressel, of East Stroudsburg; a daughter in-law: Cathy Schuyler, of Easton; two grandsons; John Dressel Jr.; of East Stroudsburg and Justin Schuyler; of Easton, PA; two great grandchildren: Ayden and Conner Schuyler; four sisters: Bernicee Henning, of East Stroudsburg, Norma Miller, of Stroudsburg, Dollie Border, of Easton; and Lillian Kieper, of T.N.; a companion Lorraine Carlton, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends will gather on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home Inc. 27 Washington Street East Stroudsburg, PA. Funeral Services will follow beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Rev Schramm Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of the mountain officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
